Froch – “Where's.....My......Money”
THANKS TO ROBERT SMITS AND VOLTAIRE MERCADO FOR YOUR HELP!!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this challenge. Since I was fortunate enough to make the Mega round, I decided to put myself out there on a few levels and go big. I'm still gaining confidence in sharing my passion with potential subjects. So I was thrilled when Voltaire agreed to be my subject on this challenge. It was the second time I've enlisted the help of a friend, and I'm once again very happy with the results and also the process.
For this challenge, for me it was about lighting. I wanted to use speedlights and light a scene similar to what I felt a FrankMiller scene would look like. Once I had my concept, I set out to write the short scene and storyboard it. I locked this gallery, putting up my storyboards, tests, and lighting examples for Robert and Volt to look at. It was a great way to share info remotely.
As with all the challenges I do, detail is key. I want the props to be realistic and fit the scene without seeming placed or over the top. Voltaires fedora was perfect. I found the suitcase at a thrift store, the hotel and hotel room were PERFECT. Allowing for the car to be parked outside the window for the shot which depicts the killers pulling up as an unaware Voltaire packed the suitcase. The only thing missing was the phone....I looked for a phone that week to no avail. I decided to use the phone in the room, but when I checked in, there was no phone. So we adjusted and used a cell phone. I was going for a more 'retro' feel, which was slightly ruined by the use of new technology.
For the post work, I knew I needed to have the frames match in luminance values so they weren't all over the place from panel to panel. I'm pleased with those results as well. Post work really amounted to 5moves. FAD, curves, desat, dodge and burn, then an applied texture. I knew that I did not want a sketch or high contrast grayscale. I wanted the images to be photographic. For me this submission is all about lighting.
Thanks for looking!
